About UsI received an art degree from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and I knew I wanted to be able to make a living doing my artwork. I started batiking a few years ago. It was a slow start with many trials and errors, but I was soon making sellable clothing. I started out with adult clothing and was soon batiking kids clothing of all kinds. There is an outdoor market for artisans where I live in Eugene, Oregon, the Saturday Market, which is the perfect place to sell my clothes. I was married in 2001, and my husband, Gary, became my instant partner. He has experience in retail and loves being out in the public, while I love working at home. Our daughter Mira was born March 30th, 2006. And her brother Cole arrived March 29th, 2008.

What's Batik?Batik is a wax resist process that is thousands of years old. Layers of wax and thickened dye are applied to white clothing to create the desired design. I use a tool called a tjanting to apply the wax. It has a spout where the hot wax flows out onto the fabric.
When completed, a layer of wax goes over the design, and then the fabric goes into a dyebath. The wax crackles in the dyebath and creates fine lines throughout the design. These lines are a characteristic of batik.
